The City of Oxford is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the full-time Firefighter/Paramedic position. This is a Classified position. The salary range for 2025 is $75,730.54 to $89,094.75 with a paramedic certification. Pay for lateral entry applicants will be based on years of full-time firefighter/Paramedic service with another agency, up to 100% of the pay range for applicants with three or more years of qualifying service. There are currently two new positions to be filled.

Applicants will be required to complete:

A City of Oxford Employment application.
The Fire TEAM and Public Safety Self-Assessment Tests are through the National Testing Network. A minimum score of 70% is required to move forward.
Additional credit for education, military service, or City of Oxford service credit will be applied to passing scores in accordance with Rule V of the Classified Service Procedures and Personnel Appeals Board Rules and Regulations. Proof of additional credit must be turned in to the Human Resources Manager within ten (10) business days of completing the written examination deadline.
Physical ability testing (or submit CPAT, Firefighter Mile, or Butler County Ability Test completed in the last year). Applicants may submit department-specific ability tests that may be approved at the Fire Chief's discretion. A test date will be set for those without current test results.
Peer interviews, including an EMS Skills Evaluation, with a minimum score of 70% without critical failures or 75% with critical failures.

Examples of Duties:
Drives various pumpers, aerial and rescue fire apparatus, and EMS vehicles to emergencies and properly positions and operates vehicles at the scene.
Responds to various types of emergencies, including fires and fire alarms, accidents, medical emergencies, water rescue, hazardous materials spills and releases, and natural and technological disasters.
Maintainpatientconfidentialityandprotectsmedicalrecordsfromunauthorizeddisclosure.

Operates a variety of tools and equipment related to fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials, and emergency medical services.

Serves as a hose operator in firefighting situations, including laying hose lines, pulling working lines, and holding the nozzle to direct the stream of water on the fire.
Inspects commercial, residential, and other occupancies for fire hazards, compliance with fire prevention codes and ordinances, and emergency pre-planning.
Conduct fire prevention inspection and education programs.

Prepare reports regarding work operations; maintain and update department maps; run cards and equipment records; receive and process citizen reports; observe and report violations of laws and ordinances; clean and maintain station quarters.
Perform maintenance of facilities and equipment by cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and performing any other necessary maintenance.

Performs checks and inventories of EMS and fire and rescue apparatus to ensure that medical supplies, medications, instruments, and equipment are present in proper quantities and operating condition, including within expiration dates as appropriate. Corrects and reports discrepancies, restocks supplies, medications, and equipment as needed to maintain proper operating levels.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
U.S. Citizen with no felony convictions
Firefighter II certification from the State of Ohio prior to appointment.
Current Ohio EMT-P certification or enrolled in a class in good standing that will be completed and Ohio certification issued prior to the end of a 24-month probationary period.
Must have or obtain, within one year, CPR and all other certifications required by the Fire Chief and the State of Ohio
Possession of a valid state driver's license
Minimum 1-year experience in fire and EMS or any combination of education, training, and work experience that provides the required skill sets to perform the essential functions of the job.

Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, grasp, handle or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear and smell, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Incumbent is exposed to hazards, including, but not limited to, toxic agents, smoke, bodily fluids, dust, fumes, heat, cold, noise, and odors. Have the ability to work in confined spaces. Working conditions are typically quiet, but may be loud at an emergency scene. Must be able to work varied shifts, hours, and locations, including weekends and holidays.
