Pay Rate: $121,500 Annually
Annual Education Pay:
Associate’s Degree: $1,206.40
Bachelor’s Degree: $1,809.60
Master’s/Doctorate Degree: $2,392.00
Schedule: 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday, with potential to remain on duty beyond scheduled hours for rescue or HAZMAT incidents.
Annual Leave:
80 Hours Vacation / 80 Hours Sick / 80 Hours Holiday
Accrual increases every 2 or 3 years, depending on length of service
Retirement:
TCDRS: 7% employee contribution, 14% employer contribution
457B: Voluntary retirement account, Department contribution matches up to 3%
Insurance:
Medical: Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO HSA $5,000. The Department covers 100% of the employee premium and 90% of the family. The Department makes a quarterly contribution toward the HSA account.
Dental and Vision: Guardian. The Department covers 90% of the employee premium and 70% of the family.
Short- and Long-Term Disability: Guardian. The Department pays 100% of the premium.
Life Insurance: $50,000 policy. The Department pays 100% of the premium.
Supplemental Insurance: The Department partners with Aflac for supplemental insurance available for purchase by the employee. Additional life insurance also available.
Position Summary:
The Cy-Fair Fire Department is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Deputy Chief – Special Operations to provide leadership, operational oversight, and technical expertise in the areas of rescue, hazardous materials response, and mass casualty/hostile event readiness. This role is vital to ensuring the safety of our community and maintaining the operational excellence of our department. As Deputy Chief, you will lead by example, uphold the highest standards of professionalism, and support departmental training, emergency response, equipment readiness, and interagency coordination. The rank of Deputy Chief is classified as a full-time exempt position.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, maintain, and oversee Rescue and Hazardous Materials programs, including budgeting, equipment, training, and readiness.
• Coordinate and conduct specialized rescue training, exercises, and interagency drills.
• Respond to emergency incidents, including fire, rescue, hazardous materials, mass casualty, and hostile event situations.
• Oversee development of incident-specific Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs) and hazard vulnerability assessments.
• Maintain Rescue/HAZMAT inventories, ensure compliance with training standards, and supervise equipment inspections and maintenance.
• Serve as the Cy-Fair Fire Department liaison for Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) deployments.
• Assist with the planning and supervision of department training programs and academy instruction.
• Maintain accurate records, inspections, reports, and documentation as required.
• Represent the department in committee meetings and technical review groups.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 10+ years in the Fire Service, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Valid Texas Class B, Class B-Exempt, or CDL driver’s license with acceptable record
Certifications:
• TCFP- Master Structure Firefighter
• EMT by the TDSHS
• TCFP Fire Officer III Certification
• TCFP Instructor II Certification
• TCFP Incident Safety Officer Certification
• TCFP Driver Operator-Pumper Certification
• TCFP Driver Operator-Aerial Certification
• Rescue Certifications (Must be able to obtain)
• Rope Rescue I/II
• Confined Space Rescue I/II
• Trench Rescue I/II
• Surface Water I/II
• Swift Water I/II
• Structural Collapse Specialist
• Vehicle & Machinery Extrication I/II
• Completion of the current CFFD Officer Development and Driver Operator Programs.
• Valid Texas Class B, Class B-Exempt, or CDL driver’s license with acceptable record
• Current CPR certification
• Completion of NIMS (ICS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800), approved TIMS, and Courage to Be Safe training

• Proficiency with computer systems and records management
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
• Duties performed in both office and emergency response settings
• Exposure to hazardous environments, including fire, smoke, hazardous materials, extreme temperatures, and high-noise conditions
• Requires physical ability to lift, carry, climb, crawl, drag hose, and perform rescues in full PPE (approx. 50 lbs.)
• Must maintain a reasonable level of cardiovascular fitness and agility
