POSITION TITLE: Crime Scene Technician I 

JOB LOCATION:

• Zephyrhills Police Department.
• City of Zephyrhills.

SALARY RANGE:

• Pay Grade: Z-154.
• Salary Range: $34,925.60 / $16.79/hr.
• Non-Exempt / Mandatory Testing.

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT: Applicable.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. Possess a Crime Scene Technology certification, or related forensic science certification. Associate degree in Crime Scene Technology or related field from an accredited college or university preferred; or the equivalent in education, training, and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF DUTIES: 

• This position is to assist in the investigating of crimes through the collection and analysis of evidence from crime scenes in order to assist in the identification of the perpetrator(s) and to prove and sustain charges brought in the judicial system. 
• Maintain accurate files on cases involving property and/or evidence. Intake, catalog, and control property and evidence. 
• Examine deceased persons’ bodies to identify and preserve all evidence found on or near the body involving exposure to biological dangers. 
• Reconstruct situation and physical evidence of crimes in the demonstration and proof of the connection of persons, instruments, or materials with the crime. 
• Must be available for call-out situations to include nights, weekends, holidays, and unforeseen emergency situations. 
• May be required to work overtime, or alternate hours, as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

• Candidates must successfully meet entrance requirements established by the Department to include a written examination. 
• Select candidates will have a background check completed, undergo drug testing and complete a physical exam before employment. 
• Possession of a current valid Florida Driver’s License is also required before employment.

The compensation package will start at the base salary range and may vary based on proven abilities of the individual selected. The City of Zephyrhills has an excellent benefit package, which includes medical, dental, life insurance, and Florida Retirement System (FRS).
