Academic Coaching Engagement Worker:

This innovative Academic Coaching Program supports the academic success of youth and young adults ages 14-25 who are currently in or have aged out of foster care. Through individualized academic assistance and a focus on building essential executive functioning skills-like time management, organization, and study strategies-we help participants gain the tools and confidence they need to thrive. The program serves a large geographic area-all of Harris County and the 12 surrounding counties.

Position Summary:

Under the guidance of the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, the Academic Coaching Engagement Worker plays a vital role in the daily operations of the program. This position combines direct service with coordination and logistical support to ensure high-quality delivery of services. You’ll be trained to deliver academic coaching aligned with the program’s proven tutoring model and will sign a proprietary agreement upon hire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate academic coaching sessions across multiple sites in Houston, Harris County, and the 12 surrounding counties.
  • Ensure all tutoring locations are stocked with necessary materials and supplies.
  • Collaborate closely with academic coaches, volunteers, and program staff to drive student success.
  • Provide both one-on-one and group academic coaching to help students reach their goals.
  • Serve as a substitute academic coach when needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of student attendance, academic progress, and overall program outcomes.
  • Ensure all registration forms and assessments are accurately completed and up to date.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports summarizing program activities and impact.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and current auto liability insurance.
  • Experience tutoring youth ages 14 and older.
  • Strong proficiency in core academic subjects, including higher-level math, science, and language arts.
  • Availability during after-school hours (Monday-Thursday); remaining hours are flexible, up to a total of 30 hours per week.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to multiple tutoring sites throughout Harris County and neighboring counties.
  • Availability for occasional meetings, trainings, and special events at the HAY Center.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a commitment to meeting each student where they are in their academic and personal development.

Compensation:

  • $20.00 per hour.

This is more than a job-it’s a chance to be part of a supportive team working toward meaningful change across a broad region. You’ll help young people build skills, resilience, and hope for a brighter future.

Ready to make a difference? We’d love to hear from you.
